Tumuheirwe George was abandoned by an unknown person at Entebbe General Hospital on January 18th, 2017. The matter was immediately reported to Entebbe Police station by a security guard. The Police handed him over to a certain family for temporary custody. Due to the nature of his disability, after one week the family couldn’t continue taking care of him. The police referred the child to a children’s home which also failed to care for him. The director of Bright Kids Uganda, Dr. Victoria Nalongo Namusisi was approached for help and she took George on.

George was admitted at BKU on the January 16th, 2018. He was thought to be two years old. He can’t support himself and needs help to sit, stand and eat. His limbs and lower body is weak. The only moving he has mastered is to crawl with the help of his hands.

She sent Little George to Advocates for children with disability (Noah’s Ark) another organisation under her care that is managed by her daughter, for physiotherapy in September 2018.

On April 29th, 2019, George was brought back to BKU when he could sit with support. He was placed in the hands of the BKU nurse and he is undergoing more physiotherapy.

He needs more physiotherapy and speech therapy. He also needs a stander to help him strengthen his legs and later a walker to help him learn how to walk.

George is now a happy boy with a big appetite. He is provided nutritious meals to boost his immunity and strengthen his bones. At BKU, he gets shelter, meals, medical care, clothes, and love.

He is currently trying to stand holding on to chairs and other furniture. He is also trying to sit on his own but can only last seconds in the sitting posture. He is progressing well. Given the right equipments, food supplements, and medical assistance, he will be able to sit, walk and talk.
