United in Adventure
Mallory Explorers Scouts Unit ( James, Belle,Lowis,Ross,Kieran,Ryan,Paul & Joe Loz) UK 2025 Visit to Paulo Mukasa Educational Centre located on Uganda’s Island ( Nsazi) on Lake Victoria.
A group of Scouts from the UK recently embarked on a remarkable journey to Uganda, landing on a picturesque island in Lake Victoria. This visit not only allowed the Scouts to explore the natural beauty of Uganda but also to engage in meaningful activities that fostered connections with Bright Kids Uganda.
Upon their arrival, the Scouts were warmly welcomed by a group of Kids from BKU, who sang, danced and share stories with them. The excitement in the air was palpable as the Scouts set off to experience the rich biodiversity of the island guided by two Bright Kids members up to the top of the island where Scouts had fun and took pictures on Ant Hills and saw the beautiful Scenery of Nsazi island as fresh air was blowing on them as it is pure with no impurities directly from trees and the fresh flowing water body Lake Victoria.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to a nearby chimpanzee sanctuary. The Scouts were captivated by the playful antics of these amazing primates, learning about their habitat and the conservation efforts in place to protect them. This experience underscored the importance of wildlife preservation and sparked conversations about environmental stewardship among the young explorers.
The Scouts also got hands-on with local agriculture by participating in cow milking sessions. Guided by experienced Cattle keepers, as the Kids gave them company, they learned traditional techniques while enjoying the taste of fresh milk. This interaction not only provided insight into local farming practices but also strengthened the bond between the Scouts and the Kids.
As part of their efforts to give back, the Scouts toured the island, meeting local families and sharing tales of their own scouting experiences. They also took the opportunity to recruit new young scouts, instilling enthusiasm for scouting in the next generation. Their passion for scouting and the values it embodies resonated with the local youth, fostering a sense of community and friendship.
Evenings were spent around the campfire, where stories were exchanged under the starry African sky. The warmth of the fire brought everyone together for songs, laughter, and reflections on their shared experiences. These moments not only deepened friendships but also created lasting memories that would echo beyond the shores of the island.
In a remarkable display of environmental responsibility, the Scouts participated in a tree-planting initiative, contributing to the island’s sustainability efforts. Planting trees not only beautifies the landscape but also serves as a vital component in combating climate change. This initiative empowered both the Scouts and BKU Kids, reinforcing their shared commitment to preserving the natural world.
As the Scouts concluded their visit, they departed with hearts full of memories and a renewed sense of purpose. The experience was not just about exploring a new land, but also about building bridges across cultures and fostering global citizenship.
The journey left a lasting impact on both the UK Scouts and the island community, as well as the kids reminding us all of the power of youth-led initiatives and the importance of working together for a brighter future.
