A colostomy is a surgical procedure that brings one end of the large intestine out through the abdominal wall. During this procedure, one end of the colon is diverted through an incision in the abdominal wall to create a stoma. A stoma is the opening in the skin where a pouch for collecting feces is attached.
Under the colostomy surgery project, we received 5 children from the Lango region in Lira District, namely; Akila Joseph (4 years old), Tenga Josephat (3 years old), Adong Lydia (1-year-old), Dominic Emmanuel (7 years old), and obangeken Emmanuel (3 years old). They came with their parents for checkup and diet supplements to prepare them for their surgeries due in February 2020.
Many children and one adult have benefited from the colostomy surgery project and are now living normal lives.
Special thanks to Mr. Carmen Parise and Heaven’s Family who have sponsored all the surgeries and provided colostomy bags, medicine, and financial support to the families.
